Citizen Journalist Wanted

A new independent television-over-internet channel has been born in Canada. The main aim of this channel is to become the fourth power. Its journalists are citizens committed to freedom of the press and to the denunciation of the abuses committed by some civil servants. In order to promote the channel an international video documentary contest has been launched. The total value of the prize to be won is valued at up to US$100,000. To be considered for this competition, all submissions must be made by August 31st, 2007.

Alternativechannel.tv is a Canadian television-over-internet news channel looking for what has been called citizen journalism. Alternativechannel webcasts high quality documentaries and videos about issues questioning sometimes the work of public organisms. They are all produced by citizen journalists who are guided and assisted by a professional news team. The professional assistance includes web platforms and the delivery of video on demand. The web portal was launched last April.

Alternativechannel.tv wants to be a response to the main needs (according to its creators) of today’s world: the citizen journalism. Therefore, A-channel is considered to be an interactive, international channel, which is deeply committed to the ideals of journalism in a brave new world of media.

Iwith.org is working with Alternativechannel.tv on a cooperation agreement, so Iwith.org will shortly have access to its technology. This will allow Iwith.org to develop communication services (TV-INTERNET) for NGOs using Ab·core.
