Alter the Book Day, we celebrate the Internet Day

In Spain, the most remarkable event is the Internet Day’s Awards Ceremony for which Iwith.org has selected its candidates. Get informed of the worldwide preparations for that day.

The Secretaria de Telecomunicacions i Societat de la Informació (STSI) has called for the promotion of activities helping to join citizens who don’t use Internet yet cause they have not realised how useful this may be in their everyday’s lives.

They have also invited us to participate in the 3rd edition of the Internet Day’s Awards Ceremony of the Spanish Internet Users Association. These are the categories:

+Best Event
+Best Access
+Best Educational Initiative
+Internet and me
+Digital gap

Iwith.org’s ‘candidates’ will be a brief show of the  BocaTICs, our collection of resources to reduce the digital gap.

Worldwide Cellebrations

The Internet Day was first celebrated in the early 90’s in USA, they dedicated a bank holiday to put wire networks in the schools. Later in that decade France started to celebrate "La fete de L´internet”, which they still celebrate nowadays. The European Union developed the ‘Safer Internet Day’ in 2004 in order to get a saber and reliable Internet.

It is in 2004 when the initiative comes up in Spain from a proposal of the Internet Users Association; the first event took place on October the 25th of that year. In hands of the work teams organizing the Information Society 2nd World Summit, the proposal is intended to be celebrated next May the 17th under the name ‘World Information Society Day’.

The IberoAmerican community has organized several events. Click here for further information.
