The 11th United Nations NGO Forum on Human Rights was held in Stockholm July 6-7, 2000, with the plan to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Now the final report has been published, which will be an interesting resource for organizations working in the area.

28/10/2009 - Global Eco Forum - Sustaining Together
Late last night, with the sounds of Burruezo and Bohemia Camerata, we participated in the closing of the Global Eco-Forum in Barcelona.
Under the slogan The Transition Towards Sustainability, the Forum has united the great names of European environmental protection such as Cristina Narbona, Spanish ambassador of OCDE, Dominique Voynet, one of the founders of the Green Party in France, and Dimitri Zenghelis from the Office of Climatic Change in the United Kingdom.

The mobile phones that we all use and enjoy, without thinking much about the production process, are full of the mineral coltrane. The number of genocides in the Congo that are related to the recovery of coltrane grow every day. It is a shame worldwide where other ecological tragedies of great magnitude should also be added. Nevertheless, more than thirty businesses, the majority of them Western, continue importing minerals from the Congo, regardless of such tragic politics. Easy equation.

Iwith.org will be present to explain the best practice developed in Burundi by the team of our partner, J.C. Kamwenubusa of the Association for Solidarity and Socio-sanitary Assistance. The title of the speech is Human Award Universal School (HAUS): Scholarships for the world school for student population of Burundi, Africa, and will be given by Ramon Bartomeus, since Jean Claude Kamwenubusa has not been able to travel to Barcelona.

This first week of September we were in Monterrey, Mexico for the UNGAID Global Forum 2009 where, under the title of ICT and Innovation for Education, we gave continuity to the presentation first offered a year ago in the GAID meeting in New York.

The Winners Conference of the World Summit Awards was held in Monterrey, Mexico during the first week of September 2009. Among the award recipients was Generalitat de Catalunya. iwith.org was present during the awards ceremony.

Sometimes we talk only for talking's sake. Some other times we do it to exchange opinions or because we are interested in getting to know the other's vision of the world. Thus, it may happen that we don't like other people's opinions. And sometimes we even try to change their ideas.
Personally, I would like to change the idea of many people that travelling is expensive, or even a luxury. On the contrary, I think that travelling is such a daily routine, as eating, drinking or sleeping. This article, precisely, is a small try to show you that travelling is easy and it's a pleasure as well. And well, in case you know that already, good for you.

28/05/2009 - GOOD NEWS: Yasuní Gets Approval from the Ecuadorian Government
Last September Iwith.org welcomed one of our beneficiaries, Movimiento Idún, and the mayor of the Orellana region of the Ecuadorian Amazon, Anita Rivas. We showed support for their campaign to keep oil underground in Yasuní, which will protect the biodiversity of one of the richest regions on earth. Today the Ecuadorian press reported good news for the campaign: President Rafael Correa has accepted the proposal.

“You decide how, when and where” is the slogan of the new 2.0 version of hacesfalta.org the Internet portal acesfalta.org, which, along with technological improvements, incorporates open spaces for users to participate.

From October 27th to 29th, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya is hosting the second Specialists’ Congress-Meeting to analyze, study, reflect, debate, share and most of all, to discuss and emphasize proposals about the different situations in which conflicts appear. Iwith.org was invited to attend.

Concerned with the lower and lower and less effective international contribution to development the Spanish United Nations Association, ANUE, organized in Barcelona the course ‘Tools for Development: Improving Aid for Africa’ with the purpose of launching a new model of International Contribution to Development that makes the most of the aid given. Among the speakers were Iwith.org and many of its beneficiaries.
29/09/2008 - Yasuní, Green Gold, lands in Barcelona
The movimiento Idun, an Iwith.org beneficiary, is fulfilling a dream: a tour with the authorities from the Francisco Orellana municipality, in Ecuador, to alert to the negative consequences of oil exploitation in the Ecuadorian jungle. They will arrive in Barcelona on October 14 to demand that oil cease to be the main exploitation in the region and to present a beautiful photography book, Yasuní Oro Verde (Yasuní Green Gold).
29/09/2008 - ANUE one of the Iwith.org beneficiaries, is offering a course on redefining the current approach to development assistance.
The idea emerged as a result of the recent assessment of development assistance undertaken by the United Nations in Spain, ANUE. The course is oriented around case examples from Africa and includes some practical workshops to facilitate its understanding. ANUE is one of our organization beneficiaries and Ramon Bartemeus, Resource manager of Iwith.org will be facilitating one of the course workshops.
15/07/2008 - Felicidades Xarxanet, el portal de información internacional para el tercer sector catalánHappy Birthday Xarxanet, the international information portal for the Third Sector Catalan.
Xarxanet.org provides international information of Catalans NGOs on activities and best practices of associations, through their Castilian, English and French versions. Iwith.org manages subportales Xarxanet.org of Civil Society, a site created by and for civil society, the most visited sections of Xarxanet in June. The number of visits they received shows the interest that exists in the world of associations, to know best practices and opportunities for international presence in the world.

Within the framework of the Master and postgraduate studies of resolution of public conflicts, the University of Girona ( UdG) offers four alternatives of specific training in the topic, one of which will be given by Ramón Bartomeus, Resource Manager for Iwith.org.

The NGO Intermón Oxfam has launched a web aimed at supportive young people implicated in this institution, just like other initiatives such as la Mediatek, by Grec. www.dalelavueltaalmundo.org looks for volunteers for summer music festivals, suggests an ideas-to-change-the-world contest and offers the possibility of winning a trip to visit a cooperation project -among many other different proposals.

At Plaza del Rey, a series of events were held by 1001 Actions for Dialogue organization. There, associations gathered to celebrate cultural heritage of the Euro-Mediterranean Region.

A Spanish NGO, and Iwith.org partner, has decided to offer, via photographs and other medium available on the Internet and the Ab·core platform, to raise awareness about oil and timber interest on the Amazon region in Ecuador.

Our NGO has been invited by the Global Alliance for the Information and Communication Technologies and Development (GAID), an initiative approved by the General Secretary of the UN in 2006. The alliance responds to the need and demand created by different actors of an inclusive global forum and a platform for the dialogue on the use of the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). Through this dialogue it is expected to meet the internationally agreed objectives for development and its subsequent reduction in poverty.

While UN calls for leadership in combating AIDS, in Catalonia an organization assumes the challenge and therefore, it is awarded an Ab·core program for 2007 Web Projects and it is nominated to Volunteering Awards 2007.

Two years ago ECAS and Iwith.org began to develop the first Management Programme for Records and Meetings in Catalan. Today, in addition to being a reality for the beneficiaries of Ab•Core, it can be a tool for every organisation that downloads it free from the Internet. All you have to do is go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/gestoractes/ and there you will find the code for using this service!
